GAINESVILLE - Katie Dionne, a sophomore at North Hall High School, won first place in the Senior Division of the Individual Performance competition at the recent National History Day in Georgia state championship at Mercer University in Macon.
Her performance was "Sowing the Seeds of Sustainability: Wangari Maathai and Kenya's Greenbelt Movement."

This is the fifth year Dionne has earned a spot in the National NHD competition, which will be held June 15-19 at the University of Maryland-College Park. Kelly
Schollaert from the Da Vinci Academy is her coach.
It has been quite a year for Dionne, who was recently awarded the National Security Language Initiative for Youth Scholarship. This scholarship,
funded by the US State Department, will pay all costs for Dionne to travel and study in China for seven weeks this summer.
