FLORENCE, S.C -- The 4th-ranked North Georgia softball team earned its fourth Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship since 2009 on Saturday evening after the title game with sixth-seeded Columbus State was called due to unsafe field conditions at the Francis Marion Softball Field.
The game was called in the bottom of the second inning with the score tied at one apiece.
Conference protocol deems that UNG earns the league's automatic qualification to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional since the Nighthawks were the highest seeded team remaining when the tournament was concluded.
North Georgia won three consecutive PBC Tournament titles from 2009 to 2011.
