FLOWERY BRANCH - Former Flowery Branch City Councilwoman Amanda Swafford is the Libertarian Party's candidate for the U.S. Senate seat Saxby Chambliss is vacating this year.<br /> <br /> In discussing her reasons for seeking the post, Swafford said "The Libertarian Party of Georgia has reached a unique benchmark as far as Third Party politics is concerned here in Georgia, having had two statewide candidates obtain over a million votes individually in recent contests but both candidates came to their races without experience serving in elected office and to some extent without long backgrounds in grassroots campaigning either."<br /> <br /> She added "I decided to run for U.S. Senate this year to help build on the foundation of the 2008 and 2012 Libertarian state campaigns for Public Service Commissioner by serving as a candidate for the Libertarian Party who has not only won election to office twice before but who also has a very long history of extensive grassroots involvement in politics going back more than 20 years."
