And then there was just one...
Buford was the only area girls team left standing after a tough night in the quarterfinal round of the girls state basketball playoffs.
After a one-year absence, the Lady Wolves advanced back to the state semifinals -- yet the Jefferson, North Forsyth, and Towns County girls all lost on Wednesday to end their runs in the playoffs.
(NOTE: See below for a complete list of area scores and quarterfinal playoff schedule.)
Buford whipped Woodward Academy in Class AAA. Jefferson fell to Wesleyan in Class AA, North Forsyth was knocked out of the Class AAAAAA playoffs by Archer, and Randolph-Clay beat Towns County in the Class A Public playoffs.
The Buford and Jefferson boys will look to keep their seasons alive on Thursday. The Wolves will take on Cartersville at 7 p.m. Thursday, which will be broadcast live on WDUN AM 550/102.9 FM.
The Dragons, meanwhile, will play host to Greater Atlanta Christian -- defending Class AA champ and winners of three of the last four AA titles -- at 7 p.m. Thursday.
A win for either team would send them on to Saturday's semifinals. The Lady Wolves are already there and will take on Pike County at 4:45 p.m. Saturday on the campus of Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville.
