Law enforcement scholarship established at Lanier Tech

OAKWOOD - Linda Moore, the wife of T.G. "Gunny" Moore, along with members of the Dawson County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America, recently presented Lanier Technical College Foundation Executive Director Cris Perkins with a check to establish a scholarship for Criminal Justice students at Lanier Tech. <br />

The Thomas G. "Gunny" Moore Law Enforcement Scholarship will be awarded each semester to a deserving student in the Lanier Technical College Criminal Justice Program. <br />
<br />
"We are so blessed that the Moore family and the Dawson County Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America thought of our students and our college as a way to honor "Gunny" Moore," Perkins said. "This generous gift will touch so many lives at our college. It's an honor that they thought of us as a way to honor him." <br />
<br />
"Gunny" Moore passed away February 15, 2014. He was born on December 2, 1942 in Knoxville, Tenn., and lived with his wife Linda for the past 14 years in Dawson County. <br />
<br />
He came to Dawson County after retiring from the Dekalb County Police Department after 23 years of service. He was then employed by the Dawson County Sheriff's Office for six years. He served 21 years in the U.S. Armed Forces with the Marine Corps and U.S. Air Force and served three years in Vietnam. <br />
<br />
The first recipient of the scholarship will be awarded in the Spring semester which begins on January 6.<br />
