Several in northeast Georgia are included among the 20 in Georgia that made the list: Jefferson, Auburn, Commerce and Winder.

Jefferson tops the list with a more than 70 percent decrease in its crime rate for the study period.

Using data from 2007-2012 FBI Crime Reporting Statistics, the researchers says the Georgia towns and cities "have significantly decreased crime successfully."
