Sawyer's new book on Gen. Longstreet to be introduced Sat.

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville historian Gordon Sawyer will introduce the new, revised and expanded edition of his book "James Longstreet: Before Manassas and After Appomattox" Saturday.<br /> <br /> The Longstreet Society will host Sawyer for the unveiling between 10:00-4:00 at the historic Piedmont Hotel on Maple Street.<br /> <br /> This edition summarizes Longstreet's Civil War years but focuses mainly on his boyhood years and his life after the war.<br /> <br /> Sawyer has written six books about the history and people of the Southern mountains, numerous articles for magazines such as Georgia Backroads, and taught at Brenau University's Learning and Leisure Institute (BULLI).<br /> <br /> Gen. Longstreet operated the Piedmont Hotel after he moved to Gainesville following the Civil War. It is now maintained by the Longstreet Society and serves as the group's headquarters.
