ATLANTA - Today, Dec. 8, is the deadline to nominate someone to serve as superior court judge for the Northern Judicial Circuit.<br />

The vacancy is being created by the announced retirement of Chief Judge John H. Bailey Jr., effective Jan. 1.<br />
<br />
Members of the bar may submit their own name or the name of another, but providing nominations is not restricted to attorneys.<br />
<br />
Members of the public also can nominate someone from the district.<br />
<br />

Application packets will be sent to nominees for return by Dec. 29, with interviews to be conducted after Jan. 5, the vacancy announcement states.<br />

After interviews, the Judicial Nominating Commission will select and recommend to Gov. Nathan Deal up to five persons for the position.<br />
<br />
The new appointee will serve with Judge Jeffery Malcom and Judge Thomas Hodges, who will become chief judge. <br />
<br />
The Northern Judicial Circuit includes the counties of Elbert, Franklin, Hart, Madison and Oglethorpe.
