ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- A University of Georgia climate expert says last month turned out to be one of the five coldest Novembers on record for much of the state.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports ( http://bit.ly/1BoFxZY ) average temperatures for many Georgia cities last month were 5 to 6.7 degrees colder than normal. The National Weather Service reports Atlanta, Augusta and Macon all had average temperatures hovering around a chilly 49 degrees. In Athens the average was 48.1.

In Gainesville, temperatures were below average on 23 of the 30 days in the month. The coldest was Nov. 18, when the high at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport reached only 34 after a morning low of 23. The next day wasn't much better. That's when the low was 22 and the high was 46. In addition, wind chills were a big factor on the 18th.
Pam Knox, UGA's agricultural climatologist, said November also had some strangely warm temperatures too. Savannah, for example, saw its coldest Nov. 19 on record with a low of 28 degrees. Less than a week later, on Nov. 14, the temperature reached 83 - a record high for Savannah on that date.
