Girls basketball: Defense leads Chestatee to win over Lumpkin

GAINESVILLE -- One night after a heartbreaking loss to East Hall, the Chestatee girls rebounded with a solid 47-17 win over Lumpkin County on Saturday. <br />

The Lady War Eagles (2-4) held Lumpkin County to just three points in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters.<br />
<br />
Chestatee led just 12-8 after the first quarter but outscored the Lady Indians (1-5) 35-9 the rest of the way.<br />
<br />
Tyler Bennett paced Chestatee with 18 points. Brooklyn Popham added 12 points and Kayla Watson 11 points for the Lady War Eagles.<br />
<br />
Chestatee next will play host to Stephens County next Friday.<br />
<br />
Lumpkin County will open its Region 7-AAA schedule on Tuesday playing host to Franklin County.
