WASHINGTON - Doug Collins (GA-09) was among those in Congress voting Thursday for a bill denouncing President Barack Obama's executive actions on immigration and declaring them "null and void."

"This is the time for debate," the Gainesville Republican declared. "This is the time for solving problems. President Obama defied the public and the process through his executive actions, and today (Thursday) the People's House acted on the People's will."

Collins went on to say there is nothing symbolic or politically motivated about that, and "the Congress the American people elected will work on a solution to our immigration problem despite President Obama's efforts to poison the well."

The legislation, which passed 219-197, declares it would undo the measures Obama announced last month to extend work permits and relief from deportation to more than 4 million immigrants in this country illegally.

Yet the vote was seen by man as mostly symbolic since the bill stands no chance in the Senate and faces a veto threat from Obama.
