Girls basketball: Lady Falcons rally to take 8-AAAAA opener

FLOWERY BRANCH -- The Flowery Branch girls basketball team rallied from a big first quarter deficit to beat Clarke Central 47-44 Tuesday in both teams' Region 8-AAAAA opener.<br />

The Lady Falcons (3-1, 1-0 Region 8-AAAAA) trailed 18-6 after the first quarter. But they turned up the the defense outscoring the Lady Gladiators (3-3, 0-1) 28-13 in the second and third quarters to take a 34-31 lead.<br />
<br />
Flowery Branch was able to hold off Clarke Central down the stretch hitting 7-of-10 free throws. The Lady Gladiators were just 5-of-15 on free throws for the game.<br />

Julianne Sutton led Flowery Branch with 16 points. Heather Moore had eight points and Maddie Hetzel added seven points for the Lady Falcons.<br />
<br />
Flowery Branch next will travel to Heritage, Conyers on Friday.
