GAINESVILLE - Two-legged Hall County residents are not the only ones expected to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast this week - animals at the Hall County Animal Shelter will also partake in a holiday meal thanks to the shelter's staff and volunteers.
Susan Allen, volunteer coordinator for the Hall County Animal Shelter, said they will be feeding the pets a chicken and rice dinner Saturday from 2:00-3:00 to celebrate the holiday.

"They usually only get dry (food), and we thought they'd really enjoy something special," she said. "So I'm reaching out to the community for their help with this."
Hall County Animal Shelter Program Coordinator Cindy Langman said the agency is seeking donations of money to help fund the Thanksgiving meal. Anyone wishing to donate can do so by taking a check or cash to the shelter, located at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville, or by donating online at hallcounty.org/publicsafety/animal_donation.

"If you can donate just $5 or if you can cook up a pot of chicken and rice yourself and deliver it to the shelter, we can make this happen," said Langman.

The Hall County Animal Shelter will be closed Thursday and Friday of this week but will be open for visitors from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29.

"If you're not interested in adopting but still want to help out, consider walking or playing with the dogs outside in the playground area," Langman said. "No matter what time of year it is, the animals are always thankful for any time and attention they receive."
