Longtime Habersham banker, community leader dies

CLARKESVILLE - A memorial service will be held Wednesday for Bobby Gene Black, 73, a longtime Habersham County banker and community leader, who died Sunday.<br /> <br /> The service will be at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church.<br /> <br /> Black spent 34 years of his banking career with Habersham Bank. He received the Presidential Citation from the American Bankers Association in 1987. Black had served as a senior vice president of Southern Bank & Trust since 2005. <br /> <br /> He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, chairman of the building committee, and as a Sunday school teacher. <br /> <br /> He served as the Clarkesville Lions Club sight conservation chairman, had been president of the Habersham County Chamber of Commerce, and chairman of the Habersham EMC Foundation from 2002 until 2012. In addition, Black worked with the Clarkesville Business and Community Association, where he was instrumental in the redevelopment of downtown Clarkesville.<br /> <br /> <i>A full obituary can be found on the AccessNorthGa.com Obituaries page.
