ATLANTA -- While enjoying an off week, No. 17 Georgia Tech clinched a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game Thursday night.<br />

The Yellow Jackets (9-2, 6-2) earned a trip to Charlotte as Coastal Division champions when Duke lost to North Carolina 45-20.<br />

Georgia Tech completed its ACC schedule with a 28-6 victory over Clemson last weekend. The Yellow Jackets needed a little help at that point - the 25th-ranked Blue Devils had to lose one of their two remaining games.<br />

North Carolina made sure it wasn't a long wait, racing to a 38-7 lead on the way to an easy victory.<br />
<br />
Georgia Tech will face top-ranked Florida State on Dec. 6. The Yellow Jackets will be appearing in the ACC title game for the third time in six years and fourth time overall.<br />

"I am proud to see the hard work our team has put in all year pay off with the ACC Coastal Division title," coach Paul Johnson said. "We have lots of work to do over these next two weeks."<br />

The Yellow Jackets are off this week and will face No. 9 Georgia in their regular-season finale before taking on the defending national champions in a rematch of the 2012 ACC title game.<br />

"We're excited by the opportunity to compete for a conference championship and add another accomplishment to what has been a terrific season," athletic director Mike Bobinski said.<br />

Georgia Tech first played for the ACC title in 2006, losing to Wake Forest 9-6. The Yellow Jackets won the championship in 2009, beating Clemson 39-34, but the title was later vacated because of NCAA rules violations.<br />
<br />
Two years ago, Florida State defeated the Yellow Jackets 21-15 for the conference championship.
