CLEMSON, S.C. -- Clemson coach Dabo Swinney says Cole Stoudt will start at quarterback in place of the injured Deshaun Watson when the Tigers face Georgia State on Saturday.
Watson sprained a ligament and bruised a bone in his left knee during the first quarter of a 28-6 loss at No. 17 Georgia Tech last week. Stoudt played poorly after replacing Watson, throwing three interceptions -- two which were returned for touchdowns.
Stoudt began the season as Clemson's starter before Watson took over in a September loss at Florida State. Stoudt also started three midseason games for the Tigers (7-3) when Watson broke a bone in his throwing hand against Louisville last month.
Swinney had thought Watson's latest injury was more serious. However, tests showed no major damage Watson could return this season.
