The No. 16 University of North Georgia women's soccer team allowed a goal in the 12th minute of the 2014 Peach Belt Championship Game and despite outshooting No. 5 Columbus State 11-6 in the second half, could never find an equalizer, falling 1-0.
The Nighthawks slipped to 16-4-1 with the loss and now wait to learn their NCAA Division II Tournament fate on the Tournament Selection Show at 7 p.m. Monday, on NCAA.com.
Columbus State's Nicole Corcione found the back of the net at the 11:25 mark, knocking in a deflected shot off the post from Ashley Miller.
The game featured two of the Peach Belt's top goalkeepers in CSU's Maylyn Parsons and UNG's Mallory Sayre; each collected six saves on the night. Sayre moves to 16-4-1 on goal for the Nighthawks this season.
Freshman Rachel VanHorn and sophomore Sophia Matonak led North Georgia on the attack with five shots each, while both players put two shots on frame.
Cicely Taliaferro joined Sayre and VanHorn on the PBC All-Tournament team.
The PBC Championship appearance was the second for the UNG women's soccer program and first since the 2010 season.
