State cross country meet: Branch boys 2nd in AAAAA; Lady Falcons 5th; Union boys 6th in AA; Lakeview's Brooks 3rd in A<b> (VIDEO) </b>

CARROLLTON -- The Flowery Branch boys cross country narrowly missed out on another state title finishing just seven points behind Clarkston in the Class AAAAA state meet Saturday.<br />

Jake Shewbert finished fourth overall to pace the Falcons, who had 108 points to Clarkston's 101. Gainesville's Juan Ortega finished ninth overall.<br />
<br />
The Red Elephants finished 12th overall with 379 points in their first-ever showing at the state meet.<br />
<br />
Logan Poteet of Kell won the individual race with a time of 16:14.93, beating second place Hakeem Mustafaa of by 14 seconds. Shewbert finished in a time of 16:37.02.<br />
<br />
Apalachee finished 20th overall with 511 points.<br />

The Lady Falcons just missed out on a podium visit finishing fifth in the girls meet. They tallied 214 points. Mariah Milsap as the top finisher for the Flowery Branch girls with a 25th-place showing.<br />
<br />
Winder-Barrow finished 14th overall. The Lady Bulldoggs were led by Micah Weathers, who finished 24th in the individual race.<br />
<br />
Dunwoody won the girls state AAAAA title with 77 points, placing four runners in the top 17. <br />
<br />
In the Class AA boys race, Union County finished sixth with 235 points. Riverside Military was 13th with 388 points.<br />
<br />
In the Class AA girls race, Union County finished 10th and Rabun County 12th. Emma Garrison finished 16th for Union County.<br />
<br />
In the Class A boys Private race, Lewis Brooks of Lakeview Academy finished third over all with a time of 17:13.95. Brooks was the only Lakeview runner to make the state meet.
