High school student charged with fake school shooting threat

By B.J. Williams
CUMMING - A threatened school shooting at South Forsyth High School this week turned out to be a hoax, but authorities say they found the student they believe to be responsible.

Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy Doug Rainwater said the student is 19-year-old Emmanuel Godswill, who reportedly created a fake Twitter account. Godswill then began to tweet threatening messages from the fake account to his own account, according to Rainwater.

Once school officials became aware of the messages, they called authorities, and additional patrols were sent to the high school.

Rainwater said an investigation revealed Godswill was responsible, and the student was arrested on charges of disruption of a public school and public defamation and impersonating another or a witness.

"So, three charges, two misdemeanors, one felony," said Rainwater. "He did make bond last evening. We're just awaiting now his first court appearance."

Rainwater said he was not sure what prompted Godswill to issue the false threats.

"That's the one thing that we can't say right now. We're working with the Forsyth County Schools, and they are going to handle their part [of the investigation]," said Rainwater.
