GAINESVILLE - The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia (HSNEGA) Board of Directors announced Monday that Julie Edwards has been selected as the organization's new executive director.

Edwards has been with HSNEGA since 2010. For the past eight months, she has stood in as acting executive director. Previously, she served as the Director of Development and Marketing.

"I'm very honored to be chosen to lead a team that is so dedicated to the mission of improving the lives of the homeless and companion animals in our community, as well as improving the experience of pet ownership in our community," said Edwards.

"I think it's not only the pets we serve in the community, but the people," said Edwards. "And we have the capacity to expand our services, I feel, to perform more spay/neuter surgeries... possibly expand our foster programs and reconfigure space so we'd be able to rescue more animals in need, and also just to continue our relationships with some of our regional animal welfare partners so we can more proactively work together on issues that affect our region."
Edwards is a graduate of Brenau University and received her masters degree from Georgia State. She and her husband Kerry live in Gainesville with their dogs Charlie and Roxie and their cat, K.K.
