The U.S. Marine veteran held in a Mexican prison since April is now back home in Florida, according to Fox News.

Andrew Tahmooressi was released from El Hongo Federal Prison Friday night.

Former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson played a major role in the negotiations to get Tahmooressi out.

"He's in good spirits. He's smiling. He wants a steak. He wants to go home. He wants to see his mom. He's had a tough ordeal. He's had close to eight months, but now he's free," Richardson told Fox News Friday night.

Tahmooressi has said he crossed into Mexico by mistake. He had three guns in his truck. The veteran suffers from post traumatic stress disorder.

Richardson told Fox that was a factor in the Mexican judge's decision to release Tahmooressi.
