Mill Creek defense dominates Norcross in stunning win

NORCROSS -- The Mill Creek defense defending Class AAAAAA state champion Norcross to just 39 total yards and pitched its second shutout of the season in a stunning 30-0 drubbing of the Blue Devils Friday in a key Region 7-AAAAAA matchup.<br />

The Hawks (6-3, 5-1 Region 7-AAAAAA) pulled into a three-way tie with North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge for first place heading into next week's season finale against Peachtree Ridge. The win also clinched a playoff berth for Mill Creek, which missed on the playoffs last season.<br />

Mill Creek broke a scoreless first quarter when Jonathan Hawkins scored on a 20-yard run in the second quarter. daniel davis would make it 14-0 before halftime on a 30-yard touchdown run.<br />

Davis added a 17-yard scoring run in the third quarter and the Hawks pushed their lead to 23-0 heading into the fourth quarter when Stanley Otiwu sacked the Norcross quarterback for a safety.<br />

Hawkins finished the scoring for Mill Creek with a 10-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.<br />

The Hawks defense dominated the Blue Devils (6-3, 4-2) holding them to minus-39 yards rushing for the game.<br />
<br />
Norcross, which has lost two straight for the first time since 2011, must beat Collins Hill next week in its finale to advance to the playoffs for a fifth consecutive season.<br />

David finished with 142 yards rushing and Hawkins had 109 yards rushing for Mill Creek.
