West Hall fights back to set up title showdown

HOMER -- West Hall can finally talk about it -- playing for a region championship.<br /> <br /> The Spartans moved within one win of claiming their first region title on Friday, fighting back to defeat Banks County 23-7 in Homer.<br /> <br /> Standing in West Hall's way is a powerful Lumpkin County squad that rushed for 437 yards in its win over Dawson County on Friday.<br /> <br /> The Spartans (8-1, 5-0 Region 7-AAA) will want to replicate Friday's second through fourth quarter performance next week. West Hall fell behind 7-0 with 2:15 left in the first quarter and responded with 23 unanswered points.<br /> <br /> Bradley Hodgson led the way. The West Hall placekicker nailed three straight field goals -- making him 11 of 13 for the season on attempts -- to give the Spartans 9-7 lead with 3:02 left in the third quarter.<br /> <br /> Kwon Williams finished the game off for West Hall, breaking off two fourth-quarter touchdown runs -- 18 and 32 yards. <br /> <br /> Williams finished with 162 yards on 17 carries, rolling up 220 total yards. He also snagged two interceptions on defense. Tyquan Statham also rushed eight times for 72 yards in the win.<br /> <br /> The Spartans finished with 293 yards, while holding Banks County to 170.<br /> <br /> Banks County is still in the postseason race and will head to East Hall for a key contest.
