Forsyth Co. deputy hit by vehicle while directing traffic at school

CUMMING - A Forsyth County sheriff's deputy has been taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries after he was hit by a vehicle Monday morning.<br /> <br /> The deputy, Anthony Hodgkins, was directing traffic in front of Coal Mountain Elementary School on Highway 369 around 7:30 a.m. when he was struck. <i>(Original reports indicted the deputy was in front of North Forsyth High School at the time of the incident.)</i><br /> <br /> Georgia State Patrol Sgt. 1st Class Tim Meyer said Dep. Hodgkins was wearing a reflective coat and was using a traffic wand at the time he was hit. Meyer also said that the deputy's patrol vehicle was parked in the gore area of the center lane with emergency lighting activated<br /> <br /> The person driving the vehicle, 39-year-old Jeffrey Herb of Cumming, was not injured, according to Meyer. He said Herb did stop after the incident; Herb faces a charge of failing to obey authorized person directing traffic.<br /> <br /> Meyer said the deputy was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with scrapes, abrasions and cuts to his hands and arms, and he might have suffered a broken jaw, as well.<br /> <br /> <br />
