CLARKESVILLE - The Habersham County Chamber of Commerce (HCCC) kicked off its 25th annual Leadership Habersham program recently.

Coordinators are Harold Pickett with Georgia Power, James Bowman with Habersham Metal, and Laurie Church with Habersham County. These coordinators scheduled nine sessions and a graduation prior to the starting of the program.

Although the participants get traditional leadership training, the focus is on the past, present and future of Habersham County and the systems that make it work. The group learns about Habersham's government including fire and police protection; social services, civic organizations and community programs; education; the health care industry; and Habersham's legal and political structure. They take field trips to the county's businesses and industries, and get a behind-the-scenes look at these companies.

In February of each year, the group takes a trip to the State Capitol to observe Georgia's legislature first hand and to meet the state's elected officials.

"Being recognized in the gallery of both the House and Senate is exciting," said Dr. Judy Taylor, Chamber President. "Habersham's elected officials, senator and representatives, roll out the red carpet for this group and make us feel very welcome."
