Suwanee 'Sweetheart Spring' coming up Feb. 8

By Staff
SUWANEE - There's a little extra incentive for runners in the February 8 Suwanee Sweetheart Sprint, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Buford/North Gwinnett: There will be chocolate at the finish line and in the race bags. As if that weren't enough to motivate just about anyone to run 3.1 miles, the race course, which starts and ends at Suwanee's Town Center Park, has been certified as a Peachtree Road Race qualifier.

"We're offering a little bit of something for all kinds of runners," says Suwanee Sweetheart Sprint Race Director Rachel Reed. "For the novice runner looking for a good reason to get out there, what better incentive than chocolate and a cool t-shirt? And hardcore runners can earn a good corral placement at the Peachtree Road Race. Mostly, we're trying to create a fun atmosphere for runners as a way to raise more money for our Rotary scholarship fund."

Runners can sign up for the race at SuwaneeSweetheartSprint.com. Registration is $25 per person through February 3, but those signing up together as a couple or pair can register for $20 each. Race-day registration fees are $30/individual and $50/couple or pair.

The race will begin at 9 a.m. in front of Suwanee City Hall at 330 Town Center Avenue. Race packet pick-up will begin at Town Center Park at 7:30 a.m. Participants are encouraged to dress to reflect the race theme of love, Valentines, and chocolate; prizes will be awarded.

The Suwanee Sweetheart Sprint is an annual fund-raiser for the Rotary Club of Buford/North Gwinnett, whose members provide service and support for a variety of community needs and organizations. Funds from this year's race have been designated for scholarships for local high school graduates.
