GAINESVILLE - The state Department of Education has released the latest SAT scores for the districts and schools. The average score for Gainesville City Schools is 1,364.
Reacting to the score, Supt. Merrianne Dyer said "The Gainesville Board of Education has set as priority that all students regardless of level of English proficiency be able to take the SAT. Therefore, there is a high level of student participation among students."

Dyer added that the school system has a goal for the average to reach 1,400.

"Students in college preparatory and advanced placement already score significantly higher than 1,400. However, in order to improve our average scores, we have implemented these strategies: hold all students to a higher level of accountability for completing college preparatory coursework before taking the SAT (and offer) SAT Preparatory courses at no charge to the student."
