SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Donovan Johnson rushed for 141 yards on 36 attempts to lead a run-oriented Wofford offense that defeated Georgia Southern 30-20 on Saturday night.
Wofford (2-1, 2-0 Southern) won its home opener against Georgia Southern (2-1, 0-1), giving the Eagles a loss in the first game of their last season as a conference member.
A Torrance Hunt touchdown run in the second quarter gave Georgia Southern its only lead at 14-10. But Wofford responded with three unanswered scores to build a 30-14 lead and held on for the win.
Jonny Martin scored two rushing touchdowns for the Terriers to compliment Johnson's ground game as Wofford pulled away in the second half.
Wofford rushed 67 times compared with 9 passing attempts. Jeff Ashley caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Michael Weimer to highlight the Terriers' limited passing game.
Jerick McKinnon had 114 yards rushing and two scores to lead the Eagles.
