COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia is preparing office space as it plans to add hundreds of jobs in the Columbus area.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/152My1W ) that the Atlanta-based insurance firm has announced in recent weeks that it's adding 600 jobs in Columbus.

The company has signed a two-year lease for 47,700 square feet of space in Muscogee Technology Park on the city's northeast side. Blue Cross spokesman Bert Kelly says the company will house about 400 workers at the site when it's finished.

The company's new hires are expected to increase its Columbus-area workforce to about 1,800. A portion of its employees work remotely from their homes.
