Food Stamps, Wild Hogs, And Socialism

I met a South Georgia banker a few years ago who explained how to catch wild hogs in the Okefenokee. It works this way, this sage old banker explained: " On a year when acorns were short, this farmer would go down in the Okefenokee Swamp area and clear out a spot. He would put down 3 or 4 posts, throw a roll of fencing out, toss out a few bushels of ear corn, and leave. About a week later," this banker recalled, "the farmer and a friend or so would come back; dig in a few fence posts, maybe tack up a bit of fencing. Noticing all left of the first corn was the cobs, he would throw out more ear corn, make a big racket and drive off. A week later they would come back, put down some more posts and fencing. Throw out even more con, and again leave. They repeated this routine till in time they had a circle of fencing. The young hogs got to where they would meet them inside the circle when they drove up. The farmer then drove a livestock trailer and parked it, and this time they threw some corn in the trailer. In time even the old hogs went inside the gate to get their fair share. At this point the gate was closed, the tail-gate lifted and the wild hogs were hauled off to be slaughtered." And then my banker friend threw me a curve. "That is how you catch wild hogs," he said, "and that is how liberals used food stamps to turn conservative Georgia Democrats into Socialists."<br /> This is Gordon Sawyer from a window on historic Green Street. <br />
