GAINESVILLE - The Clermont woman who reported that she was assaulted in her home on July 31 has been arrested for making a false report of a crime.
Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch issued a statement, saying that an investigation revealed that Jillian Moore was not the victim of a crime and that a stab wound allegedly suffered in the attack was likely self-inflicted.
Initially, Moore told Hall County investigators that she was raped and stabbed in her home on Avalon Commons Way by a black man wearing a mask. Investigators said Moore told them the alleged suspect fled with jewelry after the attack. She was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of the stab wound after the alleged assault.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist Hall County authorities with the investigation.
The Hall County Sheriff's Office acknowledged that the reported attack caused a great deal of concern in the north Hall area and that a number of residents had expressed frustration that they had not received enough information in the case.
The 24-year-old Moore is free on $6,000 bond, according to the sheriff's office.
The case will remain under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigation Division.
