GAINESVILLE - When the Weather Girls belted out the chart-topping hit "It's Raining Men" in 1982, Ingrid Arthur was just a young girl honing her craft on stage in Gainesville.
A little more than a decade later, Arthur would record two CDs as a Weather Girl, and found herself performing with performing with artists such as Bette Midler, Cissy Houston and Shirley Caesar.
Arthur will grace Gainesville's stage again on Saturday, September 7 at 6 p.m. and Sunday, September 8 at 4 p.m. as she returns home to celebrate Performing Arts at an inspirational concert - Love's In Need - presented by her home church, St. John Baptist Church.
Joining Arthur is another Gainesville native who's made his mark in the performing arts industry as a celebrity wardrobe stylist and assistant prop master working for shows such as "The Game," "Let's Stay Together" and "The Rickey Smiley Show."
Terrance Shelton, an acclaimed musician in his own right, also worked with musical artists such as Andre 3000, CeeLo Green and jazz vocalist Cassandra Wilson, to name a few.
Arthur and Shelton share unique insights on breaking into the industry, keeping their homegrown values on the international stage and handling success and setbacks.
"We saw the Love's In Need concert as a chance to celebrate two of our own who are living their dreams with purpose. This is also a great way to show our young people the varying career opportunities in the entertainment industry. We're excited to share this performing arts series with our community,"
says Stephen P. Samuel, St. John's senior pastor/teacher.
