ATLANTA - Georgia's sales tax holiday, planned to coincide with back to school shopping, is coming up Friday and Saturday.
Businesses won't be charging sales tax on clothes, shoes, school supplies and computers on those two days in August set by the state. (See first link below for a complete list of exempted items.)
There are limits. A pair of shoes and an item of clothing can't cost more than $100. School supplies can't cost more than $20 per item, with a $1,000 limit on computers and accessories.
Georgia has had an annual sales tax holiday for more than a decade. There were no sales tax holidays in 2009, 2010 and 2011, when state officials said Georgia couldn't afford it.
And, though the sales tax holiday is geared toward back to school shoppers, there have been complaints in recent days that it should have been scheduled earlier because so many schools are already back in session. (See earlier story. Second link below.)
