GAINESVILLE - "Stars over Elachee" is a hands-on telescope experience where you become the astronomer - and the first one of the Fall season is coming up Saturday night.
The two-hour program will begin at 8:00 at Elachee Nature Science Center in Gainesville.
You'll have a chance to learn how a telescope works, how to set one up, and then use one of eight 6-inch telescopes to take a tour of the Moon, and then discover Planets, Stars and Constellations.
As a bonus the evening of August 10 is near the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, so several "shooting stars" should be available for viewing.
You'll receive an observation log and star chart to assist in seeing constellations, stars, planets, and possibly Moon craters and Apollo landing sites. Bring a flashlight and pencil. Space is limited and reservations are required. Call 770-535-1976 to register and reserve a telescope.
The cost is $10 for adults, $5 under 12. Admission is free for Elachee members. The program is recommended for anyone 8-years-old and older.
