Sewer overflowed in Forsyth County

CUMMING - A Forsyth County sewer line has flooded after heavy rains overflowed the line.

Early this morning, the 48-inch gravity sewer line feeding Forsyth County's Fowler Water Reclamation Facility flooded. The sewer line is located near Big Creek, which was also flooded from rains.

At about 6 a.m., a manhole just outside the facility began to overflow. Rain water and sewage spilled into the flooded area near Big Creek.

The overflow has since been stopped and did not interrupt service to any customers. A preliminary assessment suggests that a heavy object may have hit a manhole and damaged it, causing excessive floodwater to enter the sewer.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division, Health Department and downstream water purveyors have already been notified.
