City Hall theft in Demorest still under investigation

DEMOREST - The Demorest police department is investigating a theft of cash from the town's city hall earlier this year.

According to the police report, the theft happened sometime between January 25 and February 12.

An estimated $5000 is unaccounted from the city's utilities' payments.

City Manager Juanita Crumley says the investigation is ongoing, so the amount of information available is limited. "We have conferred with the Habersham Sheriff's Office, the GBI and the Georgia Department of Corrections. All customers' accounts are reconciled with computer entries so no individual accounts are affected."
