CLEVELAND - White County officials spent most of the pre-dawn hours of Sunday checking out a sinkhole on the side of Georgia Highway 115.
The sinkhole, on the side of the road in the parking lot of Chattahoochee Grocery east of Cleveland near the White/Habersham County line, was reported by a passerby just after 2 a.m.
White County Public Safety Director David Murphy said a power pole with a security light was affected by the sinkhole, but there were no traffic problems.
According to Murphy, the sinkhole is about 10-15 feet across and about 12 feet deep and is near a storm drain pipe.
Habersham Electric Membership Corp. crews were called to correct the power situation, and Georgia Department of Transportation crews will be working to fill the sinkhole.
