Buford mom charged with leaving child in hot car

COVINGTON - A Buford woman faces a number of charges after she allegedly left her 5-year-old son hiding in the floor of her car while she went shopping.

The incident happened Saturday night in Covington, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Police said Mary Ann Moore, 32, was arrested after they were called by a passerby in the parking lot of a K-Mart store, who said the child was alone in the car, crying, with the windows rolled up.

Police said when they arrived they found the boy sitting on the floor in the back seat of the vehicle, sweating and holding a towel. Police said the child told them his mother told him to hide under the towel so no one could see him.

Moore faces charges of contributing to the deprivation of a minor, obstructing a law enforcement officer and tampering with evidence.

Police said the child was turned over to a family member.
