CLAYTON - The pre-holiday weekend yielded dozens of traffic violations on the roads of Rabun County.
According to statistics released by Rabun County Sheriff Frank Andrews on Monday, multiple safety checkpoints around the county Friday night resulted in 21 arrests and 56 citations.
Andrews said the effort involved the Georgia State Patrol, in conjunction with the Rabun County Sheriff's Office and Detention Center, Habersham County Sheriff's Office, Toccoa Police Department, Dillard Police Department, Georgia Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, Mountain Judicial Circuit Narcotics Criminal Investigation and Suppression Team, and Georgia Department of Corrections Canine Team.
Some of the arrests and citations included eight DUI arrests, seven misdemeanor drug arrests, eight charged with suspended driver's license/no driver's license, two wanted persons, 12 seatbelt violations, three child restraint violations, four open container violations, one expired tag, one permit violation, and three underage possession of alcohol charges.
