GAINESVILLE - Nearly 1,000 red-shirted Wells Fargo volunteers and friends were out in force across Georgia last Saturday as part of a 20-city initiative helping a broader variety of non-profit groups than in the first two years of the company's Community Service Super Saturday.
Locally, in Buford, volunteers worked with Habitat for Humanity of Hall County. Susan, the homeowner, needed a major upgrade on her living situation, and she got it with help from Habitat and Wells Fargo.
She is getting a brand new home, and volunteers helped demolish her old dilapidated trailer.
Wells Fargo presented Susan and Habitat for Humanity of Hall County with a check for $15,000 which will help rebuild the home. Susan has been selected as a homeowner partner by Habitat after completing her "sweat equity" and down payment requirements. Well Fargo's contribution will keep on giving into the future as Susan's mortgage payments will help to build future Habitat homes for other deserving members of the community.
"This is our favorite time of year," said Robert Horn, district manager for Wells Fargo. "We are honored to serve our communities in this way and we're proud to give to such worthy organizations."
Wells Fargo is giving $205,000 in all this year to upgrade the housing situations of 14 Georgia families, either by building new homes or repairing existing ones. A majority of the work will be done in partnership with Habitat for Humanity, which will receive $150,000 in all.
