CLEVELAND - Construction crews have reopened the southbound left turning lane on U.S. Highway 129/Georgia 11 at Donald Thurmond Parkway south of Cleveland.
Back in April, as part of the construction of the Cleveland Bypass interchange, the center turning lane was removed and traffic shifted to the west to allow for new traffic lanes to be constructed on the east side of Highway 129.
Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Teri Pope said Wednesday work has been completed and crews made a traffic shift late Tuesday. All traffic has been shifted over to the east side now and closing the far right southbound lane.
Pope said crews will be installing a more secure concrete barrier on the west side of the road so workers can begin work raising the grade of the road to match the bypass.
She indicated this part of the construction will last three to four months.
Even though the left Walmart turning lane has been put back in place, officials urge motorists to pay close attention to the shift in traffic lanes as they travel in that area.
