John King Band comes home for Demorest concert June 13

By Staff
DEMOREST - The John King Band, featuring Habersham's own John and Andrew King, Joe Higgins and Danny Mote, and Parker Smith of West Palm Beach, Fla., will perform in concert at 6 p.m., Thursday, June 13, at the Piedmont College Amphitheater in Demorest.

Formed in Athens in 2010, the John King Band is gaining attention across the country for their blend of Southern rock and country. In 2011, The John King Band had their first big break when they entered The National College Battle of the Bands, winning the Southeast division and finishing in the final five in Los Angeles.

"Since the battle, we have been hitting on all cylinders," King said. "We've gotten offers to play shows all around the Southeast, and we are really seeing a huge increase in our fan base. It's a really exciting time."

General admission tickets are $7. Piedmont students, faculty and staff, and children under 5 are admitted free. The Arrendale Amphitheater is located at 359 College Drive, adjacent to the Swanson Center for Performing Arts and Communications. The venue features open-air stadium seating with plenty of room to bring your favorite folding chair or cushions and cooler. No alcoholic beverages are allowed.

The 24-year-old King, who formed his first band at age 15, has surrounded himself with some of the most talented young performers in the Southeast. The band includes King's younger brother, Andrew, on drums, and bassist Mote. On guitar, Smith and Higgins sport a brilliant double-lead harmony, digging up a sound that has been dormant since the glory days of Lynard Skynard and The Allman Brothers. Fans will enjoy the local flavor of their music as well, which includes tunes such as "Bulldawgs," a tribute to their Athens beginnings.
