GAINESVILLE - The man at the helm of the Georgia Mountains YMCA has accepted a position with the Y in North Carolina.
Rich Gallagher is slated to become the Executive Director of the Siskey YMCA in Matthews, a suburb of Charlotte, according to a release from Gallagher's office.
Gallagher has served as CEO of the Georgia Mountains YMCA for two years. According to the organization, he has reduced its debt from $9 million to $3.5 million and increased its membership to the highest number in years.
"The Y will continue to thrive in Gainesville and is well positioned to grow in the counties north of here. The Y is a true partner in the community, and it will continue to have a positive impact on thousands of residents." Gallagher said.
Gallagher is slated to start in North Carolina on July 15. The Sisky organization has a $8.8 million YMCA, 600 staff members and 30,000 members.
"I wasn't looking to move, but an unexpected opportunity came my way. I truly believe this is God's way of allowing me to further my career and serve others through the YMCA," Gallagher said.
Prior to the Georgia Mountains YMCA, Gallagher served for two years as chief operating officer and one year as the executive director of the White County Family YMCA.
