By staff
Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground will play host to one of 11 U.S. Open Sectional qualifying rounds on Monday.

Players who qualify will compete in the 2013 U.S. Open Championship at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa. on June 13-16.

Played over 36 holes in one day, sectional qualifying is a test of skill and endurance, with only a handful of available spots at each site -- the number of qualifying spots is determined by the quality and quantity of the field at each location.

Hawks Ridge Golf Club has hosted sectional qualifying in four of the last seven years.

Professional and amateur golfers expected to compete in next week's qualifier include T.J. Vogel of Cooper City, Fla., who captured the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Soldier Hollow G.C. in Midway, Utah. With his victory, he earned an invitation to the 2013 Masters Tournament. As a junior at the University of Florida, Vogel was chosen second-team All-American.

Billy Andrade, 49, will also compete and has played in 11 U.S. Opens and tied for sixth in 1992. The winner of PGA Tour events, Andrade was a member of the 1987 USA Walker Cup Team.

Travis Huston of Palm Harbor, Fla., is the son of Champions Tour player John Huston. His father has appeared in 12 U.S. Opens, including a fourth-place finish in 2000.

Tee times begin at 7:30 a.m. Monday.
