GAINESVILLE - The Historic Downtown Farmer's Market on the Square opens in Gainesville Friday. The hours each Friday for the next several weeks will be 2:30-6:30.

Market Manager Steve Thomas says the quality of the market improves every year.

"We have an 11-year-old farmer joining us this season and one vendor will be selling frozen Bison meat. We'll have farm-fresh eggs, French-style baked goods, and fresh goat cheese. We are expecting early spring vegetables such as lettuce, baby beets, and swiss chard," Thomas said.

The majority of produce should be available the second or third week of June. The Master Gardeners will drop in from time to time and you'll find special items for bird lovers. The market is offered in cooperation with Main Street Gainesville.
