DURHAM, N.C. -- Nick Howard and Kenny Towns each drove in two runs, while Scott Silverstein flirted with a complete-game performance to help Virginia beat Georgia Tech 8-2 on Thursday in pool play at the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Silverstein (9-1) allowed two runs in 8 2/3 innings for the third-seeded Cavaliers (46-10), who rebounded from Wednesday's loss to Virginia Tech in their tournament opener.

Howard and Towns hit consecutive home runs in the fourth for a 4-1 lead, then Brandon Downes added a homer in a three-run sixth for Virginia.

Zane Evans had three hits for the seventh-seeded Yellow Jackets (34-24), who beat Florida State on Wednesday.

Georgia Tech starter Dusty Isaacs (4-7) took the loss, allowing six runs - five earned - and six hits in five innings.

The Yellow Jackets face the sixth-seeded Hokies in Pool B on Friday, while the Cavaliers play the second-seeded Seminoles on Saturday.
