Groups pledge $10.5M to I-285/GA-400 project

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA (AP) -- A group of metro Atlanta business community leaders are pledging $10.5 million to improve one of the state's busiest and most congested freeway interchanges.

Gov. Nathan Deal joined members of the Perimeter Community Improvement Districts for Wednesday's announcement at the Capitol. Deal says the state doesn't have all the money it would like to fund transportation efforts, but called the I-285/GA-400 project a "top priority in the state."

The Perimeter interchange hugs the northern part of Fulton and DeKalb counties and is a major artery not only for commuters but also trucks hauling goods.

The money will come from taxes already being collected from commercial properties within the improvement districts. State transportation officials are currently studying how much money will be needed for the project.
