Josova, Davis among honorees for Brenau tennis

A number of Brenau University tennis members were honored this week when the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and the International Tennis Association (ITA) announced their 2013 postseason awards.

Dominika Josova, a junior from Slovakia was named as a first team All-American, as well as the ITA's "Player to Watch." Jasova had an outstanding first year for Brenau by earning a No. 3 national ranking in the ITA NAIA College Tennis Rankings. In addition, she was also tabbed as the Southern States Athletic Conference's Newcomer of the Year.

Meanwhile, Golden Tigers assistant John Davis was tabbed as the ITA Assistant Coach of the Year. Brenau has been ranked inside the Top 10 of the NAIA Women's National Coaches' Top 25 Poll every season he has been with the team, including an NAIA No. 1 ranking earlier this year.

Also honored were Vladica Djurdjevic and Maria Perdomo Medina, as NAIA second team All-Americans. Zalina Nazarova was an honorable mention.

As the governing body of collegiate tennis, the ITA promotes both the athletic and academic achievements of the collegiate tennis community. The ITA, which is comprised of nearly 1,700 men's and women's varsity coaches representing over 1,200 institutions, administers numerous regional and national championships and the ITA College Tennis Rankings for over 20,000 college varsity student-athletes at the NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA and Junior College levels. The ITA also has a comprehensive awards program for players and coaches to honor excellence in academics, leadership and sportsmanship.
