Oakwood seeks grant to help fund apartment sewer system

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
OAKWOOD - The city of Oakwood is seeking a grant to help finance extending sewer service to an apartment complex. The service would replace a failing septic tank system at Hidden Valley Apartments on McClure Drive.

City Manager Stan Brown said Tuesday the City Council voted Monday night to apply for an emergency grant from the state Department of Community Affairs. Brown said he's hoping for up to $50,0000 to help with the cost of the project, pegged at between $120,000-$140,000.

Brown confirmed Tuesday that he has met with the property owners, who would share in the costs - over and above the amount of any grant. He said the apartment complex qualifies for the grant because it serves low- to moderate-income residents of the city.

The project entails sewer lines and a pump stations, Brown said. The septic tank system at the complex has been failing for several years, he added.
