Track: Gearing wins AAA 3,200, Hoffman takes pole vault; Mullinax 2nd in AAAA race

ALBANY -- White County's Jenna Gearing picked up her second state title of the school year Thursday after winning the Class AAA 3,200-meter run at the girls state track meet.

Gearing's time of 11:08.90 was nearly 18 seconds better than Anna Gandolfo of Blessed Trinity. Victoria Rogers of North Hall was fourth posting a time of 11:51.60 and fellow Lady Trojan Makayla Ellis took sixth with a 11:59.43 time. Makayla Hewell of Banks County was ninth.

Gearing, a freshman, won the Class AAA cross country state title during the fall season.

Meanwhile, North Hall's Gabrielle Hoffman enjoyed an exceptional day, winning gold in the pole vault with a 10-foot performance. She was joined on the medal podium by a number of teammates, including Harper Seymour

Seymour took second in the Class AAA shot put with a heave of 36-3 and was third in the discus with a throw of 112-08. Lady Trojans distance specialist Victoria Rogers also finished fourth in the 3,200.

Also in Class AAA Karly Thompson of Fannin County was fourth in the discus and Hayden Wilson of Dawson County was eighth.

In the Class AAAA 3,200 race, Tori Mullinax of Chestatee had a solid showing finishing second with a time of 11:39.30 behind race winner Morgan Ilse of Marist, who posted an 11:15.79.

In the Class AAA long jump, Corey Staples of Buford took second with a jump of 16-07 1/2. Shae Giles of North Oconee won the event with a leap of 17-06.

In the Class AA pole vault, Abby Carson of Jefferson finished eighth.

In Class A high jump, Lily Mather of Commerce finished third with a jump of 4-10.

In Class A triple jump, Commerce's Cameron Hawkins was sixth after a jump of 32-08 3/4.

In the Class AA 3200-meter run, Reese Bowles of Jefferson finished sixth.

The meet will continue Friday in Albany with more field finals and the 1,600-meter finals.
